New Pastor and 100th Anniversary in Alton, Illinois

Brown Street Baptist Church, Alton, Illinois, is rejoicing over two ministry milestones: its 100th anniversary and the calling of a new pastor.

The church celebrated 100 years of ministry February 19. In a cake and punch reception after the evening prayer-and-praise service, the church family reminisced over the past and prayed for its present and future ministry. That future ministry includes the calling of a new pastor. That day the church voted to call Daniel Sternquist as its pastor.

Daniel was previously associate and youth pastor at First Baptist Community Church, Monte Sereno, California. That church hosted a farewell dinner for him and his family March 12. Member Doris Renfro says it’s “hard to say goodbye” but is “thankful that God chose our church family as a place for Pastor Daniel to grow and mature into a senior pastor.”

Daniel’s first Sunday of ministry at Brown Street Baptist Church was March 19.

Throughout the year, Brown Street Baptist will be hosting various events to mark its centennial anniversary. One of those events will be a homecoming weekend September 2–3.

“I consider it a true privilege to be a part of what God is doing through this church, and I’m excited to see how He will continue to use Brown Street to reach people for Christ,” Daniel says.
