Pastoral Referrals

The GARBC pastoral referral ministry facilitates contacts between pastoral candidates and churches, and provides counsel for church search committees and pastors in transition. Our primary focus is pastoral candidates and churches in the GARBC.

For Churches in the GARBC seeking pastoral candidates

Please submit a written request that includes the following information:

● the ministry position the church is seeking to fill (and job description if available)
● characteristics the church is seeking in a pastor
● an overview of the church’s ministries
● the average attendance at services
● an economic and age profile of the congregation
● a description of the community surrounding the church
● an indication of church preferences in areas such as Bible versions, congregational
music, etc.

Upon receiving your request, Dr. Jim Vogel, Associate GARBC National Representative, will contact the church with names of potential candidates as he becomes aware of appropriate men. We do not forward complete resumes to the churches-but ask the churches themselves to request the information from each potential candidate that they desire. We encourage each autonomous GARBC church to investigate each candidate thoroughly to determine whether or not the candidate will fit its ministry philosophy and vision.

If search consultation is desired-please contact Dr. Vogel who is available to assist churches in this area according to their need and as time allows. Additionally, we recommend the resource, The Right Pastor, available through Regular Baptist Press, 1-800-727-4440. This workbook gives churches step-by-step direction in searching for a new pastor or additional staff members and includes sample letters and questionnaires.

For Pastors seeking pastoral position

We ask that you read the GARBC Articles of Faith and become familiar with our mission and core values as an Association. (Please consult other areas of our website, www.garbc.org, to view these convictions.) If you are not a current or former member of a GARBC church, please further acquaint yourself with the GARBC by reading the books, Quest for Faithfulness, by Dr. Paul Tassell, and Portrait of Obedience by Dr. J. Murray Murdoch, available from Regular Baptist Press, 1-800-727-4440.

As you might expect, our goal is to facilitate connection between our men of God and GARBC churches needing pastoral leadership. Our concern is not mere agreement but solid conviction related to our fundamental doctrinal commitment and core values. We seek to encourage pastoral leadership in our churches that affirms involvement in our Fellowship and joins with us in upholding the banner of sound doctrine, balanced separation, Baptist distinctives and world evangelism. We do not accept resumes of candidates who have been divorced.

When you have completed reading these books and have determined that you are in agreement with the faith and practice of the GARBC, please submit your resume, stating the ministry position that you are seeking and any preferences that you may have for Bible versions, worship styles, or areas in the county in which you would like to minister.

Please send resumes to

Upon receiving your resume you will be contacted by Dr. Jim Vogel, our Associate GARBC national Representative. After completing a brief interview regarding your ministry perspective and personal commitment to the values and doctrinal position of our Fellowship, your name will be placed in our active referral files.

If contacted by a church, please investigate the church thoroughly to determine if the church is an appropriate match for your ministry philosophy and vision. Each church in the GARBC is autonomous and makes its own decisions in pursuing candidates and choosing a pastor.
