Prayer for Pastor Dale and Gwen Schatz

Posted August 24, 2009 in GARBCnews, PrayerLink

Dale Schatz, pastor of Heritage Baptist Church, Bella Vista, Arkansas, and representative of  the Ozark Association of  Regular Baptist Churches, will undergo surgery on Tuesday, August 25, for a large mass in the colon that the doctor believes to be malignant. Dale’s wife, Gwen, had a lump removed from the outer chest wall on August 20. Gwen’s surgery went well and it is anticipated that the lump was benign. Please pray for our brother and sister in Christ as they experience these health difficulties. Gwen states, “May God’s will be done.”

Pastor Don LeMaster, Brooklyn Baptist, Brooklyn, NY, is praising the Lord for your prayers on his behalf during his recent thoracic surgery. VBS Workers Needed Next Summer in India

Pastor HC Stephen in Churachandpur, NE India, reported 591 in attendance at this year’s VBS with 54 staff.  He stated that 134 students professed faith in Christ. Next year they are planning a joint VBS for the schools and churches. They anticipate 1000 students.  Brother Stephens is looking for a church who will plan a mission’s trip to assist them in next year’s VBS in July.  This will be a great cross-cultural experience.  If interested, contact Pastor Stephens at hcstephens@yahoo.com .

GLS Kids for MissionsGLS Bank

Gospel Literature Services offers a fun way for children to share their coins and help overseas children learn about Jesus. GLS is enlisting children to fill piggy banks to send Sunday School and VBS materials to  far off places. The Kids for GLS project is a great way for a family, a Sunday School class, or a Christian School class to build interest in missions. These funds will help pay the shipping costs to get these resources to Asia, Africa, India, and other needy lands. Click here for more information.

Quest Network Informs

Are you keeping current in your awareness of  theological issues and ministry  trends? The Quest website offers resources in these topics and more. On the Quest website you will find book reviews and information on preaching, Christianity and culture, preaching, theology, and worship. Young Baptist leaders are making thought provoking and knowledge entries almost every day! If you are a young Baptist leader under forty, connect with your peers. “Old guys” are encouraged to connect with the “young guys” as well! Go to Quest!

Mentoring by the Reps

John Greening and Jim Vogel are offering the opportunity for young Baptist leaders to interact with them in a six-month mentoring relationship. The men must be currently in vocational ministry or preparing for vocational ministry in college or seminary.  This one-hour online biweekly interaction on ministry practices will pursue the following learning objectives:

  • to gain an understanding of the dynamics of pastoral ministry; e.g., leadership, interpersonal relationships, communication, circumstantial appropriateness, etc.
  • to aspire to a godly “best practices” approach to ministry
  • to develop the competencies of Christlike pastoring.
  • to enhance ministry effectiveness through intentional involvement with other pastors/churches/ministries within the GARBC.

If you are interested in participating in this inaugural mentoring relationship, please email John Greening or Jim Vogel stating your desire to be included  and your reasons for wanting to be involved. A maximum of seven men can participate. Mentoring will begin the first week in September. The one-hour session will occur every two weeks.
