Putting Others First: October 2008

Posted in October 2008, Putting Others First, e-INFO

Pray for the Hindals

Chris and Deb Hindal of GARBC International Ministries recently departed for a five-week ministry trip to India, Indonesia, Mynmar, and Thailand. Please pray for their strength, safety, and wisdom as they travel. They will be visiting with international partners and speaking multiple times. You may download their itinerary and pray specifically for their needs. As you view the itinerary, please pray for the international leaders and ministries listed also. Another item for your prayer list is the Hindals’ need of selling their Florida property.

Church Directories Available

Keep the “together” in the GARBC motto, “Together We Can Accomplish More.” You can keep in touch with fellow churches, pastors and wives, and ministry personnel by ordering the new 2009 GARBC Church Directory for $14.99. Contact information changes rapidly so be sure to order this handy reference. Order online or call Regular Baptist Press 1-800-727-4440 today!

Economy Impacts Churches

The economic downturn is affecting the financial state of churches in the Association.  Please pray for one another as our churches seek to keep vibrant ministries, impacting their communities for Christ. Pray that people in our churches will make giving to the Lord’s work their first priority in budgeting. Also, pray for the support needs of missionaries and the GARBC ministries who are affected by churches downsizing their missions budget. The GARBC has no obligatory dues; we depend upon churches voluntarily offering support. If your church is financially able, please consider adding the GARBC, 1300 N. Meacham Rd., Schaumburg, IL, 60173 to your 2009  missions budget.

Praise Regarding Protection

As Hurricane Ike roared through Houston,  three churches in the GARBC were in its path.  Praise the Lord, all of the churches report that they are doing well and only suffered minor damages! They will let Baptist Builders Club Director Michael Nolan know of any needs that arise.   Please continue to pray for  these Houston area churches  as they reach out in their communities in relief efforts.

Improving Your Ministry Skills: October 2008

Posted in December 2007, Improving Your Ministry Skills, e-INFO

Make a Difference at the Polls!

Our National Elections will soon occur. As Christians we have a responsibility to influence society through our vote. Church leaders, encourage your people to get involved by…

  • incorporating prayer in your worship services and teaching times for our upcoming elections
  • educating people about what God’s Word says about moral issues and civic responsibility; i.e., abortion, homosexuality, our responsibility as citizens toward our government
  • encouraging members to compare candidates’ stands on issues compared to Biblical standards
  • providing voter registration forms for members to register (Central Baptist in Binghamton, NY, is providing forms at their church facility for the community to register and providing free coffee.)
  • prompting members to request absentee ballots, www.govoteabsentee.org, if they are unable to vote in person

Choosing a Good Church

“Out of all the available options, which church should I attend?”

People choose churches for a multitude of reasons, but do they consider the important reasons? For resources that will help you educate newcomers or church members on the essentials of a good church, see  www.GARBC.org and www.regularbaptistpress.org

Fundamentalism Seminar

Baptist Church Planters (BCP) is sponsoring a seminar on The Theology of Fundamentalism, October 28-30, taught by Dr. Kevin Bauder, President of Central Baptist Seminary. For more information, see flyer, The Theology of Fundamentalism, or contact BCP, 440-748-1677.

Dispensational Hermeneutics Council Statement

The Council on Dispensational Hermeneutics has released the Summit Statement on Dispensational Hermenuetics,  a formal summary that resulted from meetings held Sept. 24-25 on the campus of Baptist Bible Seminary, Clarks Summit, Pa.

The formal statement offers affirm and deny statements addressing the interpretive methods that Bible scholars use to discover the meaning of Scripture. The council of traditional dispensational theologians advocates a historical-grammatical interpretation of the Bible, taking each passage literally unless there is strong internal evidence to suggest that the language is figurative. The council meetings featured the presentation of six papers followed by lengthy periods of interaction among the participants. See Baptist Bulletin for summary statement and more info.

Association Updates: October 2008

Posted in October 2008, Association Updates, e-INFO

Talents For Christ New Category

Talents For Christ (TFC) directors from several states and GARBC personnel participated in a September 16th web meeting to plan for the upcoming TFC competition. The directors enthusiastically committed to promoting TFC in their region and through state meetings and voted to offer the new category of instrumental ensembles in the open competiton. Directors expressed thankfulness for Regular Baptist camps in Iowa, Michigan, and Ohio offering  state TFC  scholarships to their camping programs. TFC participation is growing, let’s keep the momentum going! It’s not too early to prompt your church teens to participate in next year’s competition-as a group or individual, scholarship or open (non-scholarship).

Children’s Curriculum Sales are UP!

Praise the Lord for the good reception of the new RBP’s children’s curriculum. We took the input of churches in the GARBC and designed the curriculum with you mind. The teacher-friendly Planting Faith (2s & 3s, pre-primaries) and Growing Faith  (primaries, middlers and juniors) curriculum are available in two versions, KJV and NKJV. Learn more about our curriculum on RBP Children’s Ministries website. Your students will love the learning activities! Place your order for winter quarter now.

Opportunity to Help a New Church

A church in the GARBC is ready to start a new work and they have requested funds from the Baptist Builders Club START UP fund.  As of the end of September Baptist Builders Club did not enough funds to meet the full request.  Church planting is our future; we need your support! You can help plant churches by giving today.  You can make a web donation  or send support to BBC-USA, 1300 North Meacham Rd., Schaumburg, IL  60173.
