Christmas Eve Service

Posted February 28, 2008 in Uncategorized

When we do a Christmas Eve service, we like to keep things quiet and worshipful. We dim the lighting and use lots of candles. We prefer to use simple accompaniments such as acoustic guitar and piano .

Our order of service is as follows:

  • Carol
  • Scripture
  • Prayer
  • Carol
  • Special Music
  • Scripture
  • Carol
  • Special Music
  • Choir (traditionally, “All Is Well”)
  • Carol

The ending of the service has become special and meaningful to us. We empty the pews and the church family forms one large circle around the auditorium. We extinguish all lights and candles but one. In the center of the room, shines one candle, representing the Christ child. We end the service by holding hands and singing a cappella , O Come Let Us Adore Him and Silent Night. Our Pastor closes the service in prayer.

Praying for Talents For Christ and Pastor Rudy

Posted February 27, 2008 in GARBCnews, PrayerLink

Pray for many young people in GARBC churches who are making important decisions this week that profoundly affect their futures. Many teens are choosing to register for Talents For Christ Scholarship Competition as the March 1st deadline approaches. Pray for these young men and women as they develop skills and talents for serving the Lord.

Anchor Baptist Church in Genoa City, WI, requests prayer for Paul Rudy, their pastor, as he has been diagnosed with stage three, B-cell lymphoma cancer. Chemotherapy will begin in the near future. Remember his wife, Elaine, and three girls-LeAnne, Monica, and Shelby, and the church as they go through this trying time.

Best Practices Conference for Local Church Ministries

Best practices for building local church ministries will be the focus of a wide-ranging event, Friday and Saturday, March 28 and 29, at Baptist Bible College & Seminary (BBC&S), Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania. The keynote speaker will be BBC&S President Jim Jeffery. Workshop sessions will feature tools, ideas, and lessons applicable to leadership development and to children, youth, adult, and outreach ministries. More a dozen speakers from academia, ministry organizations, and pastorates will lead the twenty-seven sessions geared toward church workers; i.e., teachers, greeters, counselors, youth leaders, and seniors.

Registration is $30 for the entire conference, $12 for Friday night, or $20 for Saturday, including complementary beverages and lunch and a 20% discount at the Campus Bookstore. Attendees will have the opportunity to view and purchase new resources from exhibitors. Deadline for registration is March 20. Online registration and information is available at www.bbc.edu/cmc/.

The Living Word Bible Conference

West CannonRegistration is open for West Cannon’s second annual Bible Conference and Pastors’ Seminar, February 25-27. The West Cannon Conference provides fellowship, encouragement, and renewal for those who are battling on the front lines and includes sessions geared just for women. The inerrancy, sufficiency, and the authority of God’s Word are being called into question by those who profess orthodoxy. This is not a new threat to God’s Word and the church, but its postmodern packaging demands closer examination. Walter Kaiser, Steve Lawson, Jim Grier, Jason Nightingale, and Jeannie Vogel are the featured speakers this year. Each of them is committed to the Wo.rd of God and has been uniquely gifted in communicating His Living Word. To register, visit the conference website at www.westcannon.org/thelivingword.

Give Teens Positive Press

Churches in our Association have students who are outstanding young people. We would like to honor students who demonstrate outstanding Christian character and service at home, at church, and in their community at our Annual Conference and in the Baptist Bulletin. Do you have a high school student in your church who you could nominate? Recognize the positive contribution that your church’s teen makes in local church ministry by nominating him or her for the 2008 Annual Student Service Award. Click here for the nomination form.

Well Done, Faithful Servant

Do you know a dedicated and faithful pastor and wife or lay worker who has gone the extra mile in serving the Lord in the local church? While the Lord is the One who commends, we should recognize and thank these dedicated servants while they are on earth. Every year the GARBC honors faithful servants at the June Annual Conference and in the Baptist Bulletin magazine. Won’t you nominate someone you love and admire for his or her work’s sake? You can nominate individuals for the GARBC Service Award online or by downloading a nomination form.
