Dr. Michael Loftis, President of ABWE, shares the following request:
Please lift your hearts toward heaven in concerted prayer for President Emeritus Dr. Wendell Kempton as we close out the year 2007. Dr. Kempton has been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, likely melanoma, in multiple locations throughout his body. This information was not expected or known about before and the picture has only become clear within the past couple of days. Dr. Kempton will not be available for any meetings or visits, but he and Ruth wish to express their deep appreciation for your love and prayers and for the gift of privacy at this time.
Cards & letters may be sent to ABWE or to their home address below.
Dr. & Mrs. Wendell Kempton
602 Northfield Road
Lititz, PA 17543
Dr. Kempton has always loved and ministered from the Psalms. I would direct your attention to Psalm 112, especially verses 6 and 7: “For the righteous will never be moved; . . . . He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord.”

GARBC staff members enjoyed a time of celebration and reflection at the Resource Center on Friday, December 14. The day began with a retirement tribute for Valerie Wilson, editorial director, recognizing her forty years of excellent and faithful service with RBP. The Voices of Victory choir from nearby Schaumburg Christian High School delighted the staff with beautifully sung Christmas music. A gasp of delight arose from Valerie upon learning that the digital piano used to accompany the choir was actually her retirement gift. The staff enjoyed a delicious buffet luncheon in the transformed “Christmas Wonderland” editorial wing, followed by a carol sing. As part of the Christmas celebration, staff members decorated the Resource Center hallways with themes reflecting Christ and His love. The following staff members were honored for their years of service with Regular Baptist Ministries: 5 years—Jeanine Gower, Steve Pittsenbarger, Mitch Tau, Nancy Lew, Dawn Kalinowski; 15 years—Mark Massaro, Keren Mendenhall, Michele Carmody, John Vining; 25 years—Jan Salzman, Judy Emery; and 30 years—Jim Iverson. Seventy-five employees assist churches through the ministry of Regular Baptist Ministries.

The story of the Savior’s birth was brought to life in the village of Hesperia, Michigan, December 8 and 9. Members of Hesperia Baptist were among the seventy-five people from local churches who presented a Live Drive-through Nativity, which included animals from area farms. Cars followed the candlelit path around the church, where scenes depicted the events from Caesar’s decree for a census to the birth of Jesus and the visit of the Magi. Over 950 people came to view the story of Christ’s birth. After seeing the Living Nativity, guests were invited into the church for hot cocoa, cookies, and fellowship.

Building lives by the Book has become the mission of Regular Baptist Press abroad as well as at home. My wife, Debbie, and I witnessed the GARBC publishing ministry’s doctrinal influence firsthand as we traveled to South America. Making our way 125 miles from Georgetown, we ferried a river to visit three village churches in the Berbice region of Guyana. These small villages of a few thousand people contain much cult and pagan influence.
An overwhelming sense of God’s grace overcame me as we walked into a church building and saw a familiar V.B.S. poster, “How to Become God’s Child,” published by RBP. We viewed visuals taped on walls and discovered the junior-age Courage Sunday School paper, indicating the church’s use of RBP Sunday School curriculum.
Through Gospel Literature Services our Association is shaping the theology of first generation churches in remote areas of the world. Cults are doing their best to dissuade, and pagan religions are making their appeals; but God has provided our Fellowship a unique opportunity to infuse Biblical truth into the hearts and minds of these eager students. They are seeing God revealed in the Scriptures through the lens of doctrinally sound material produced by RBP and distributed by GLS. As the world struggles to understand truth, these GARBC ministries are on the front lines, supplying Biblical resources worldwide to enable developing Baptist ministries to fulfill the Great Commission.

Prayer Needs
Six GARBC staff members need to sell their homes as they have stepped out in faith to do the Lord’s work. The downturn of the housing market has resulted in staff members making double housing payments. Will you pray along with them that their homes will sell?
