Anniversary2_inlineSHORELINE, Wash.—Tabernacle Baptist Church celebrated its 120th anniversary. During a celebration Jan. 23 and 24, church members and friends enjoyed dinner at a restaurant, received the pastor’s annual awards, and were blessed by messages from Dave Lunsford, pastor of First Baptist Church, Ferndale, Washington.

Tabernacle Baptist Church began in 1896, the same year that gold was discovered in the Klondike of Alaska, setting off the famous Gold Rush. The church “was also birthed the same year that the Seattle Times newspaper began,” says Tom Ruhlman, pastor for the past 35 years. “They have been recording history for all these years while we have been making history!”

Tabernacle Baptist has had quite an impact on world missions, with many members of the church serving on the mission field. And in 1948 Tabernacle Baptist started Camp Gilead in Carnation, Washington, which has grown to be a ministry partner with many churches in the Pacific Northwest.
