AltoonaIA_inlineALTOONA, Iowa—On Saturday, Aug. 9, a line of people started at the front doors of Altoona Regular Baptist Church and stretched toward the parking lot. There was still nearly an hour to go before the doors were scheduled to open at 9 a.m. for the church’s school supply giveaway.

Members of Altoona Regular Baptist Church, pastored by Chris Humburg, were busy with last-minute details before kicking off what has become an annual back-to-school outreach event.

Once the doors opened, 60 school-age children, accompanied by their parents, each picked out a backpack and school supplies along with a new package of underwear or socks.

Each family received a Bible, information about Altoona Regular Baptist Church and its children’s ministry, and a tract. They were also invited to make a Good News bracelet using “Wordless Book” colors, enjoy some cookies, and enter a drawing for gift cards to a local shoe store.

“ARBC has been blessed to see fruit from this outreach event, as some of the children from previous years now ride the church van to ARBC for church,” says member Michelle Knight. This year a father showed interest in enrolling his children in the fall quarter of the church’s children’s program, she notes. “Please pray for ARBC as they prepare to reach even more families next year.”
