HAGERSTOWN, Md.—Churches from the DelMarVa Baptist Fellowship, representing Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia, met at Evangel Baptist Church for the association’s quarterly conference.

Attendees heard messages from Jared Mitchell, pastor of Temple Baptist Church, Glen Burnie, Maryland, and David Mathews, pastor of Faith Baptist Church, Vienna, Virginia; attended a brief business meeting; and welcomed a new church into the fellowship: Skyline Baptist Church, Front Royal, Virginia, pastored by Randy DeSantis.

The schedule also included a session for ministry leaders on “Mental Health and the Church.” Leading the session was Ron Shank, a pastor for 23 years who is now director of pastoral care at Brook Lane Health Services, an accredited mental health facility in Hagerstown.

“It was good to be able to look at the role each church can have in ministering to those dealing with a mental injury or illness, especially as it relates to removing the stigma often associated with this type of illness,” says Ron Faith, who is pastor of Evangel Baptist Church and a chaplain with Regular Baptist Chaplaincy.

Women attended a session with Lori Schroder. Lori and her husband, Kurt, are missionaries who planted Good News Baptist Church in the historic area of Cascade, Maryland, and currently serve there as pastor and wife.
