BrooktondaleNY_inlineBROOKTONDALE, N.Y.—Brooktondale Baptist Church celebrated its 200th anniversary Sept. 26–28 with a weekend full of special events. The church’s 1864 bell was rung at the beginning of each event, signaling to the community that each service was starting.

A homecoming took place Friday night, with photos shown and memories shared by people from New York, Pennsylvania, and as far away as Florida. On Saturday, attendees heard from missionaries and pastors who had either grown up attending the church or were trained under the leadership of the church’s pastors. That afternoon, young people enjoyed activities, and a reunion took place with the Christian school graduates and teachers. That evening a Thanksgiving dinner was held with 150 people in attendance, the church’s ensemble presented a patriotic concert, and all veterans present were honored.

Other activities of note were the revealing of an updated book of the church’s history, the presentation of certificates to 10 individuals who had been members for at least 60 years, and the presentation of a 200-year commemorative wall plaque carved by one of the church members.

Sunday services consisted of three preaching services by Dr. Milo Thompson, pastor from 1964 to 1967; John Garner, pastor from 1968 to 1991; and Richard Lloyd, current pastor since 1999.
