The 2008 GARBC Conference closed with a Friday morning concert by Talents For Christ participants and an award ceremony to recognize the winners. Several long-standing members of GARBC churches were also honored with service awards.
“It’s all about preparing to serve the Lord,” John Greening said, as the winners of the Talents For Christ competition were announced. “This preparation is a vital part of growing in spiritual maturity.”

Conference guests sloshed through puddles and dodged heavy rains during the third day of the 2008 GARBC Conference. A full day of activities included sermons by Ariel Abadiano, James Maxwell, and Gary Anderson; ten workshops; an international ministries luncheon; and receptions after the evening service.
High school students from across the country competed in twelve categories during the annual Talents For Christ competition, and winners were announced from Wednesday’s group competition.

“A Baptist Perspective on Reformed Theology.” Dr. Myron Houghton, senior professor of systematic theology at Faith Baptist Theological Seminary (Ankeny, Iowa), presents a workshop on Reformed theology at the 2008 GARBC Conference.

More than 1,600 guests attended the Wednesday evening session of the 2008 GARBC Conference, singing together as Dr. Irv Van Hooser conducted a choir and orchestra in a memorable praise service. Prior to the service, many guests attended a barbeque chicken dinner sponsored by Faith Baptist Bible College. Read more about it on the Baptist Bulletin website— “United in Praise.”
Mayor Steve Van Oort welcomed messengers from Baptist churches across the country during the opening session of the 76th Annual Conference of the General Association of Regular Baptist Churches, a conference which was recently moved to Ankeny due to flooding at the original Cedar Rapids site.
“Welcome to Iowa. God has put you here for a purpose,” Van Oort said. “I pray that God will bless you while you are here in Ankeny.”
The participants represent 1,350 churches in 46 states. Because the fellowshipping churches have no denominational hierarchy, the annual meetings tend to emphasize preaching, practical workshops, and social gatherings. This year’s conference takes its theme from Galatians 6:14, “The Glory of the Cross.” Several groups meet prior to the conference, including the GARBC Council of Eighteen and the Regular Baptist Chaplaincy Ministries.
