ROBERT L. SUMNER

Biblical Evangelism Press (www.biblicalevangelist.org/store), 191 Pages, Paper, $9.85

A Bible study on the book of Nehemiah would be enhanced by this work, which focuses on the ten gates of the city of Jerusalem mentioned in Nehemiah 3. (Actually, as Sumner points out, there were more than ten gates in the city, but the Spirit of God obviously directed Nehemiah to concentrate on the ones he did.) Each of these ten gates has spiritual significance, even in the order in which Nehemiah presented them, and Sumner has endeavored to apply various principles of each gate to present-day living. Thus the book serves as a great devotional tool. Sumner, ever the evangelist, is challenging and compelling with regard to the need for revival in our country, and he ends the work with a salvation appeal. He also in places makes good use of hymns and poetic material.
