D. A. CARSON,  Zondervan, 250 Pages, Paper, $18.99

Arguing that the emerging church movement is guilty of abandoning the gospel itself, D. A. Carson writes to expose serious doctrinal error in the growing movement.

The reviewer recommends that Oakland’s book be read first and then Carson’s. As can be expected from this respected theologian and educator, Carson’s book is more academic in tone and might not be as easy to digest as Oakland’s. Nevertheless, the author raises many essential questions about the movement (its boundaries are quite blurry) as well as provides treatment of Biblical passages to assist in one’s evaluation. Recognizing several admirable qualities in the developing movement, Carson injects a bit more balance than Oakland, but reaches similar conclusions about the core theological issues
