SCHAUMBURG, Ill.—Two former leaders of GARBC churches and employees of Regular Baptist Press have accepted positions at colleges.

Gene Matlock has been appointed vice president for advancement and church relations at Faith Baptist Bible College and Theological Seminary, Ankeny, Iowa. Gene worked as a Christian Education consultant for Regular Baptist Press, Schaumburg, Ill., from 1989 to 2007. In that role he traveled the United States, Australia, and Canada, meeting with pastors and Sunday School leaders and conducting training conferences. Regular Baptist Press later relocated Gene to Atlanta, Ga., where he concentrated on the southeastern part of the country as a regional field representative.

Gene began a lifetime of helping churches after graduating from Faith Baptist Bible College in 1977 with a degree in Christian Education. He served in a lay capacity at Ankeny Baptist Church, Ankeny, Iowa, in Christian Education; as associate pastor of First Baptist Church, Faribault, Minn.; as a church planter and pastor in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area; and most recently as associate pastor of Lebanon Baptist Church, Roswell, Ga.

In Gene’s new position he will oversee advancement and alumni activities and will work closely with churches in providing resources for their ministries.

Mel Walker has been named vice president for alumni and church relations at Baptist Bible College and Seminary, Clarks Summit, Pa.

Mel was previously director of student ministries at Regular Baptist Press and president of Vision for Youth, an international network for youth ministry. Like Gene, Mel is returning to his alma mater as an employee. He earned a BRE from Baptist Bible College in 1976 and an MMin from the seminary in 1996.

After serving as a youth pastor in Michigan for several years, Mel taught youth ministry courses and served in various administrative roles at FBBC and BBC&S. In his new role, Mel will expand the influence of BBC&S with youth leaders and alumni and in church relations, growing existing efforts and supporting enrollment and advancement areas.

Mel attends Heritage Baptist Church, Clarks Summit, Pa., where he is a deacon and leads a ministry to college students. He is the coeditor of Pushing the Limits: Unleashing the Potential of Student Ministry and The Greenhouse Project: Cultivating Students of Influence, and author of Impacting the Next Generation, Mentoring the Next Generation, and Reaching the Next Generation published by RBP. His newest book, Inter-Generational Youth Ministry: Why a Balanced Approach to Youth Ministry Is Essential for the Church, will soon be released through Overboard Books.
