Couples’ Retreat Recharges Spiritual Batteries

LEWISBURG, Pa.—Pastors and their wives tend to always be giving to others. So a retreat organized by the Pennsylvania Association of Regular Baptist Churches gave these couples an opportunity to allow others to minister to them.

Pastors and their wives from PARBC churches arrived at the Best Western–Country Cupboard Inn the afternoon of Monday, Feb. 6. They had been told to bring several things with them: a Bible, a relaxed attitude, and casual clothing—no ties allowed! With Bibles in hand, they met that day with evangelist Ken Lynch for three sessions interspersed with fellowship, prayer, and dinner.

Ken Lynch says he himself is a product of evangelism. He accepted Christ as his Savior in 1962, at age 15, after attending evangelistic meetings at a church near his home. He graduated from Bob Jones University in 1969 and served in various ministries of a local church before becoming a full-time evangelist in 1977. Since then, he says, he has conducted more than 1,000 evangelistic crusades in nearly every state and overseas.

Bob Jones III, former president and now chancellor of Bob Jones University, has described Ken as “a seasoned veteran of the evangelistic trail” who has “a blend of rare courage and tenderhearted conviction.” He says, “His personal integrity and understanding of the local church keep him in constant demand.”

The next morning, after breakfast, the couples joined Ken for two more sessions before heading home after an 11:30 lunch.

The PARBC says the retreat was designed for a specific purpose—to recharge couples’ spiritual batteries. It was a special time away from any duties, demands, and burdens. After two days of spiritual blessing and refreshment, the pastors and wives headed home excited to minister.
